Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to attend recruitment?
We currently require a one time $60 recruitment fee that should be paid on the first night of recruitment. In the event that you may not receive a bid and wish to re-rush in a later semester, you will not need to pay the recruitment fee again.
How often does Sigma Alpha meet?
We meet every Sunday night at 7PM. but we do not meet on weekends that holidays fall on.
What do you do at these meetings?
There are two types of meetings for our chapter. We have both professional and casual meetings that alternate week to week. In the casual meetings we discuss up coming events and things we are planning for the future. In professional meetings, we vote on things like participating in upcoming events.
Do you have a house?
Unfortunately, we do not have a house.
What activities do you do/host?
In the Fall we participate in the Hutson School of Agriculture's Fall on the Farm and Homecoming festivities, such as float building with another organization; we put on Founder's Day for both our actives and alumni to attend, and we host a Stud Auction to raise money for our philanthropies. In the Spring, we hold the Emerald Ball, which is our formal event of the year, and our Spring philanthropy event Ag Olympics. In addition to these big events, we also have sisterhoods and mixers with other organizations, participate in Ag in the Classroom, and volunteer to help out at various Hutson School of Agriculture and campus-wide events.
What are the requirements to be part of Sigma Alpha?
You are required to be involved in one other organization OR work at least 20 hours/week OR be enrolled in 18+ credit hours; you must also have at least a 2.75 GPA; we also recommend you have an agricultural related major or have a sincere interest in agriculture.
Can we be in another sorority along with Sigma Alpha?
If you already are or have been a part of a social sorority, unfortunately you will not be able to be in Sigma Alpha. You can be in an honors fraternity or sorority as long as they are non-Panhellenic affiliated.
I want to join and I have a friend that wants to as well, can I bring them with me to Recruitment Week?
Of course! The more the merrier. Our biggest way of getting the word out is through friends and acquaintances.
